Expectations

Did you know what was going to happen

 when it did

 how candid

 were the words

 that you heard

 make a sentence?

 I expect the unexpected

 to avoid being rejected

 of preconceived thoughts

 that I bought

at the nickel and dime store.

Today I sigh when I think

 how close to the brink

 of insanity

 and maybe

too close to the coo-coo’s nest I am.

I dreamed...

I dreamed of us last night
Us being you and me
 It probably
 Was because
You had been on my mind all day
To the point where I could feel you
Like hot comb grease on my scalp
I could feel you like heart palpitations
 Causing shortness of breath
I could feel you like empty pockets
 With nothing left to give.
I dreamed of us last night
And we had a cream colored backdrop
With a splash of red hot
 Multicolored polka dots
 Stained the walls
 If I recall
These were the colors of our world
The hues were an unusual mix of sunshine and moonlight
 We took flight
 On cloud 9, 10, and 11
I think we were on that stairway to heaven
 So many talk about
 I never did doubt
 You being there with me
 Your presence was as necessary
 As nourishment for my body
i dreamed of us last night
and I remember trying to give you my heart
 but you already had it
and you placed it next to yours
it lures me in your direction
 right at the intersection
of your street and my avenue
 where our rides collide
 but this is no accident
 there are no dents
 in either one of us
 but we exchange information
 the creation
 left at the scene
 resembles a mosaic masterpiece
 at the least
 breathtaking
 taking breath from me
 is a usual occurance
 for instance
 you walk by
 I see you
 Beautifully breathtaking
Making me forget how to inhale and exhale
 Until I am dizzy
 My hearts sign reads busy
 Occupied
 My feelings are implied
 No questions required
I dreamed of us last night
And we had no baggage weighing us down
 We had obviously skipped town
 it was so good
Like shackles off my feet so I can dance good
Like bluebell banana pudding ice cream good
Like smothered chicken, macaroni and cheese, greens, and peach cobbler good
 Yes that good
We are boys in our hood
Cuz I am your ride or die chick
But we are also poetic justice
 As our differences mesh
 Into a poem that refreshes
 Your soul and mine
 At the same time
I dreamed of us last night
And your brown skin glistened in the sun
When it met my brown skin and they became friends
It was then that they blended together
Causing a fusion greater than the union
 In a glass of v8
 I equate
 It to destiny
 You and me
 Me and you
 Us
 From dawn to dusk
 And back again
 My yang to your yin
 A whirlwind
 Of emotions
And at the same time peace
 that never sleeps
 surrounding us continuously
 and its magically
 delicious
 auspiciously doing our own thing
 we bring
notes to the pages of the song we write
 and at night
 we recite them
 in my dreams of us
